As Saudi Arabia urges Korean companies to participate in investments in the future city project NEOM with a total project cost of US$500 billion (about 645 trillion won), expectations for large-scale orders are growing in the Korean construction equipment industry including Doosan Bobcat, HD Hyundai Infracore, and HD Hyundai Construction Equipment.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has secured a contract to construct a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line in Saudi Arabia. According to Hyundai E&C on Aug. 1, the company has signed a contract for the “Saudi NEOM-Yanbu 525kV HVDC Transmission Line Construction Project,” a project worth US$145 million (approximately 185 billion won), commissioned by the Saudi Electricity Company.
NEOM has appointed Greek contractor Archirodon to carry out the early infrastructure works on Shusha Island. The contract award is part of a framework for constructing infrastructure for 12 islands at NEOM. Located off the coast of the Red Sea, Shusha Island will include the world’s largest coral garden, a marina, hotels, villas, a beach club, a museum and a research centre. The coral garden is the project’s main attraction and is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
Five oryx have been born at north-western Saudi Arabia's NEOM nature reserve – the first to be delivered in this part of the kingdom in more than 100 years. In recent months, NEOM locals have witnessed a baby boom in the reserve, a successful start to a rewilding programme that is still in its first breeding season. The reserve has also witnessed births of 25 Arabian sand gazelle fawns and eight Nubian ibex offspring.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a franchise agreement that will see a Hotel Indigo property open in OXAGON, a coastal industrial city in NEOM, located in the Northwest region of Saudi Arabia.

The 250-key Hotel Indigo property will be situated in OXAGON’s first residential community and will open its doors in 2026. Designed to seamlessly integrate work, live, and play, OXAGON’s neighborhoods will be fully walkable, with sustainable on-demand mass transit and micro mobility solutions.
Saudi-based Integrated Telecom Company (Salam) has signed a deal with Khazzan Information Technology (Edgnex Data Centres by Damac) that designs, builds and operates data centers across the kingdom, along with Cinturion Corp, a global provider of integrated submarine and terrestrial capacity-based network solutions and Emaar, The Economic City (EEC) – the master developer of King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) – to explore opportunities in the field of telecom and digital infrastructure.
Nadhmi Al-Nasr, CEO of NEOM, said that a community has been established and schools have been opened in NEOM in the current phase of the project. He also noted that construction has begun throughout the project site.
Speaking on the sidelines of a NEOM exhibition launch in Seoul, Al-Nasr said that 60,000 people are residing and working on the site to build NEOM, Saudi local media reported.
Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Won Hee-ryong met with Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Company CEO Nadmi Al-Nasr for the second time, following a meeting in Saudi Arabia in November 2022, in an effort to help major Korean companies win large construction orders for NEOM City. According to MOLIT on July 24, Minister Won Hee-ryong held a closed-door meeting with CEO Nadmi NEOM at a hotel in Seoul on July 23.
Twelve executives, including the CEO of Saudi Arabia’s NEOM, visited Seoul on the occasion of the NEOM City exhibition, the first of its kind in Asia. Holding a media conference on July 25, the day before the opening of the NEOM exhibition at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, the executives emphasized that, actually, the NEOM City project is coming true.
