In a recent article published in the journal NPJ Urban Sustainability, Rafael Prieto-Curiel and Daniel Kondor from Complexity Science Hub Vienna have examined the potential mobility obstacles that could be encountered in THE LINE, the linear city planned in Saudi Arabia. The article titled “Arguments for Building The Circle and not THE LINE in Saudi Arabia” puts forward the notion that a linear layout may not be the most efficient choice for a city.

This contract has the potential to pave the way for the production of up to 20 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic solar energy in Saudi Arabia. SAUDI Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS) has said that the country’s flagship project NEOM will compete with US coastal city Miami in terms of entertainment, culture, sports and retail. Appearing in a documentary shown by Discovery Channel on Monday, Crown Prince unveiled the salient features of The LINE project within NEOM, the first smart city of its kind in the world with no roads, cars or emissions. Speaking about NEOM, Crown Prince said, it is to create the new civilisation of tomorrow and encourage other nations to keep doing similar things for the benefit of the planet.
Appointed as the ‘Key partner superyacht agency in NEOM,’ BWA Yachting’s office will provide services for the world’s most spectacular luxury vessels, as Sindalah becomes the Red Sea’s long-awaited first ultra-prime superyacht destination. Sindalah is one of NEOM’s 39 islands that will be home to a world-leading yachting ecosystem with more than 5,000 berths.
Linklaters is advising NEOM on the procurement and development of its residential communities’ project, a social infrastructure project that will house the growing workforce of the region taking shape in northwest Saudi Arabia. NEOM has finalised contracts with investors for the first phase of its residential communities’ expansion with the agreement amounting to a total value of SAR 21bn, making it one of the largest international public-private partnerships for accommodation.
A Saudi student has become the first to receive a Yugo BAFTA Student Award nomination in Los Angeles for her submission in the gaming category. Rafif Kalantan, who was supported by NEOM to attend the National Film and Television School, had her work reviewed by a panel of 140 BAFTA members, who selected titles to progress to the next round of the program. The Yugo BAFTA Student Awards is an annual event celebrating the works of young, highly skilled and creative storytellers from around the world.
The Jumbo-Visma team could be sponsored by the huge Saudi Arabian NEOM development project, with team manager Richard Plugge describing a report by WielerFlits as ‘interesting’ while denying that he has any direct contact with people from NEOM. Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo will end its sponsorship after the 2024 season, but Plugge is hoping to find major international sponsors to replace them and even boost the team’s budget so they can continue to compete against UAE Team Emirates at the Tour de France and at the top of the UCI rankings.
Construction is underway on "THE LINE", the flagship project of Saudi Arabia's NEOM megacity, new satellite imagery seen by Middle East Eye shows. The $500bn megacity, which organisers claim will be 33 times the size of New York City, is due to include a 170km straight-line city. It is being built in the Tabuk province of northwestern Saudi Arabia. Two new satellite images analysed by Soar, an online digital atlas, show new developments in the province.
